unable to  login windows 8, password box shows weird characters

I have had this issue several times, reset or restoring doesn't help. Luckily I made a system Image after full installation allowing me to restore my computer with all applications and tooling but it is anoying.

What happens: After rebooting (at some moment in time after a new install) typing in the password or pin gives all sorts of strange characters so the password is never correct. Sometimes using the onscreen keyboard works. Once logged in I get the same issue when I try to change the password. This seems to also happen in other password fields.

Am I contnouosly being Hi-Jacked, since I have RDP-port forwarded in my Firewall (hardware as well as Windows Firewall) or is this a bug?

I have closed ports now, the issue still remains though. Anyone else experiencing the same??

Hi,

Since on-screen keyboard works, I suggest to change a USB keyboard to see if it works.

Hi Leo,

I did that already. I am pretty sure it is not a keyboard issue since the onscreen keyboard doesn't always solve the issue, it sometimes has the same issue

Besides, thanks for the reply/effort.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.

Can you logon with Safe Mode with networking? Does the issue occurs?

July 23rd, 2013 3:15am

same issue appears in safe mode. Only restoring from an image resolves the problem. Even restoring to a restore point won't fix the problem.

A the moment I have restored my Image and am not experiencing the issue. It feels like a ticking timebomb though.

Somehowe my previous post was marked as an answer whilst it isn't.This morning the problem appeared again:

I Ran MBAR and McAfee rootkit remover, neither of them reported any issues. I also ran full scans on MBAM and MS Defender with no issues either.

I am going to have to install my clean image again.

This is driving me crazy since I have no hacks/cracks or other illegal things.. neither do I surf dangerously, most of the time even sandboxed.

It appears that only microsoft related passwords are "scrambled"

i.e. Skydrive, Outlook, Windows log-on etc.

The passwords however are still correct and working on other pc's/devices.

Hi Leo,

After checking all options I decided to make a dual boot scenario with Ubuntu, to run boot/root virus detection from. Whilest installing I experienced some crashes so I decided to do a memtest (PC is 6 months old). Memtest showed one 8 Gb. strip of memory was very bad. Replaced it and everything seems to be running fine for a few days. I guess issues are gone.

I have the same problem,  had to "de code" the jumbo words to my real pass word.     Happened after I started computer up.  Key board fine but it's just the pass word field. Trying to find out what's going on.

But I got n.

I have the same problem, when I type, it gets deleted or changes characters, is getting really annoying, anyone found a solution?

Hi Juan-Carlos,I have posted my solution a long time ago, it appeared to be a faulty DIMM memory module. I advise you to run a memory test to see if the modules are good.

Best regards,

Bart-Jeroen
